We’ve been on the hunt for a new media console for our living room since, good, every bit long as nosotros’ve lived here almost. That “hunt” is more often than not defined by periodic stops through our favorite furniture-rich thrift stores to run into if anything grabbed us. We were in all likelihood a span of months from giving upwards solely. But and so I got this text from Sherry.

Which probably explains why a handsome clean-lined dresser like this sat at the thrift store for over a month (the tag indicated that it had originally been $79, only later going unsold for a calendar month it was dropped downwards to $59).
Wobbly legs can definitely live a deterrent because they go to the center of that detail of article of furniture. You know, it’s not something that a footling pigment or close to stain tin fix. It’s filed under “structural integrity.” But Sherry too I examined all the drawers (which slid easily as well as were made solidly) together with checked the balance of it for whatever functional damage as well as constitute none. So nosotros decided not to let those wobbly legs scare us off…
I hadn’t e’er fixed wobbly legs before, and then I was going into it a bit blind. But I figured I could only identify what was unloosen in addition to hopefully tighten it. For case, this center brace shimmied dorsum and forth waaaay likewise easily.
In fully removing it (which I did earlier reattaching it) I discovered an onetime screw on the side that was supposed to hold that leg inwards tight. So with a quick replacement screw, I was already making progress.
When I reattached the dyad with more novel screws, the center department got significantly better.
And having discovered the clandestine leg-screw (await, that sounds incorrect) I was on my fashion to tightening all of the wobbly legs. But In around cases I found that merely replacing the screws too getting them in there nice too tightly wasn’t plenty to cease the wobble completely (although it was a huge step inward the right management). So thank you to just about Googling, I read near the proposition to add together more or less woods glue about the joint. I used the stop of a paperclip to actually function the mucilage into the seam as well every bit possible. Then I used a moistened rag to wipe off the excess glue about the outside so it didn’t look all messy like it does inward this picture (this was taken pre-wipe):
Once all of the legs were glued in addition to screwed (again, my wording is less than stellar here) Sherry helped me plough the slice upright too – resisting the temptation to examination its wobbliness – we allow the glue dry out for a skillful 24 hours. The next 24-hour interval we went inwards too gave it a gentle milk shake.
It was AWESOME. No more than shaking or shimmying at all.
Unfortunately Mia, fifty-fifty amongst her novel firm legs, isn’t quite ready to come up inside to the living room. She needs a skillful cleaning – together with perhaps close to refinishing or painting, depending on how well the cleaning goes – before nosotros permit her inward.
